Sounds like you have met Tanya in the Bedroom. The Captain's tower isn't too hard to find. It has a Y shaped window. When you find it, look around and you should find a clue
Ah! Thanks! It is a bit off putting though, with the three lights I mistook it that for the number is correct and in the correct position that light bulb represents.
Sorry, there is no way to slow it down, but I can give some advice on how to move the lock's pieces more smoothly. It's designed so that it works best when you click on the correct letters of the code word and drag them slowly, following the curve of the wheel until they are in the required places.

No problem. It's a fairly old style of puzzle and maybe need to think about having them a bit more explained at times in the future.

my problem with it is it spins like a hamster on crack! is there any way to slow it down? im geting a bit ill trying to follow the letter i want...

thanks.. but i was able to get it to work by sliding just baraly from the edge one at a time.
